"Clarke." The voice of Maria Hill startled Emily a little bit "Fury wants to see you. Now." Emily really didn't want to be in trouble with the Director but she had said to Caesar that she wanted to give Fury a piece of her mind. "And then we'll get you to our on-site physicians."
"Yes Commander" Emily nodded once and wished that she hadn't. Right now she was in so much pain that she just wanted to get her side sorted out and on the good shit that SHIELD had. She looked over at Caesar and gave him a slight smile before she followed after Hill, he was already in trouble but she reached out, behind Hill's back and gave his hand a squeeze and felt the squeeze back before she turned and walked out of the quinjet holding her side.
Jemma and Fitz were walking across the tarmac of the hangar but something bad the female stop and looked in the direction of Commander Hill and Agent Clarke and knew that there was something wrong. The way that Amanda was holding herself and the way that she was walking, slowly, made Jemma started to move towards the two when Emily swayed on the spot for a moment and then dropped like she was nothing. "AMANDA!" Jemma yelled and then took off in a run.
She looked up in time to see Caesar running out of the quinjet and towards Emily before she got to them. Commander Hill had already called for a bed from the medical wing to get their ass down to the hangar as fast as they can. Jemma got down on her knees and then put her ear to Emily's mouth to listen for breath. "She's still breathing that's good" she said and then looked up at Caesar "We need that med kit from the quinjet.." Jemma then dropped her eyes back down to Emily.
The hangar had gone deathly quiet and she was aware of the eyes on those that were around Emily but even when Jemma asked for space there was still eyes on them. What worried her was the fact that Emily hadn't woken up and she done her usual tests, checking the pulse which was really slow and she wasn't sure if she was going to survive this at all.
After what felt like forever the medical team came down, they came down the ramp with a bed and to where Emily and Simmons were. They had to get a line in to pump some fluids in to her. "She was shot a few hours ago, the bullet went right through but It could've done some damage coming out, I thought that I had fixed it.." Simmons said to the doctor who was watching her.
"I'm sure you've done everything you can" he smiled at her and then looked down at Emily before looking at the team that he had with him "the stretcher" and they got her on to the stretcher before carefully putting her on the bed, one of the medics holding the fluid bag up high before the doctor said to Simmons "We will take it from here now, Agent, thank you" he gave her another smile before they took Emily.
Fitzsimmons, Poe and Caesar along with Hill and everyone else in the hangar watched as the elevator doors shut and Caesar was fighting everything in him to go after her. Hell he was going to be by her side but also knew that he couldn't raise alarms to the fact he cared so much about her, even if he wanted to put two fingers up to regulations right now.
Caesar shook his head and then looked at Poe for a moment before he walked away and hit his fist against something, it hurt.
He couldn't take it no more he went up to the elevator and made his way up to the medical ward, Poe with him just to make sure he didn't do anything stupid.
The doctor took Emily in to emergency surgery.
Caesar found that out when he got there.
It was an intense wait that Caesar was going to sit through because there was no way in hell that he was leaving this wing without finding something out about Emily.
Doctor Andrews came out and saw that Poe and Caesar were there "Are you with Agent Clarke?"
Caesar stood up straight away "Yes, is she alright?" then just behind the doctor the nurses were wheeling Emily down to a room not far from them and she was completely out of it and she looked a little pale, paler than he had seen her when she had been shot. He set his brown eyes on the doctor and knew he was going to hate what was going to come out of his mouth.
"We managed to stop the bleeding, but.. it was touch and go and she did almost lose her"
There it was
Caesar's eyes moved over to the window of Emily's room and he fisted his hand down by his side. He had almost lost his girl because of some stupid artifact in the South West of England.
"We've had to put her in a medically induced coma so that she can rest up and she will be under for a few days at least."
He hated himself for asking this but he had to know "Is she going to come out of it?" Caesar set his brown eyes on the doctor this time.
This time Doctor Andrews looked over at the window of Emily's room, the blonde haired woman had caused him a lot of anxiety because he tried his hardest to save every agent that came in to here but for some reason he wanted to save her most of all. "The fighting is all up to her now" he admitted and looked back at Caesar and Poe "She might've caused us some trouble on the operating table but something tells me she's a fighter but again.. it's all up to her"
Caesar nodded once and swallowed hard "Can I sit in there with her for a little while?"
"Yes but only one for now" Andrews smiled slightly before walking away going down to the nurses station and while this wing wasn't the typical hospital wing that would be found at a hospital they still had places where the nurses hung out.
"Go.." Poe said and nudged his head to the room and then patted his hand against Caesar's shoulder.
The beeping of the machines telling him that Emily was at least alive right now.
Caesar found a chair and sat down on her right had side he put his hand on top of hers and hated the fact that her fingers didn't wrap around his like they have done before. Then something bubbled forward that made him want to wince.
The day before they went to England Emily had been in his bed and he had been the first one to get out so he told the dogs to go in and wake her up because he knew how much they loved her.
The next thing he hears is her laughter as the dogs have got up on to the bed and have woken her up. It was nice hearing her laughter but what if... what if it's the last time he hears it?.
"Come back to me, Em" he said softly to her.
Over the next few days, even though he didn't want to, he would make trips back and forth from the hospital wing but mostly he would sit there just talking to her. Jemma dropped by a couple times to see how Emily was doing. She apologised a few times because of the fact it should never have gotten this far, hell Caesar told her that Emily should never have gotten shot in the first place.
It was on the fourth day going in to the fifth that Caesar found out that Emily was going to be taken out of the coma and that they were going to be starting the next day and it could even take another few hours before Emily come around completely, hell it could even be another twenty four hours before she even came out of the deep sleep that they had put her under.
The doctors took out any tubes that had been down in her throat before they started to bring her around. They would keep an eye on her to see how she was when she came around. Caesar watched her for a little while too and kept his hand on hers, he knows he could get in to trouble but right now he really didn't give a shit.
They had put an oxygen mask on her face and then they waited.
Then hours later her eyes started to flutter and Caesar caught it and stood up. "Emily?" he said softly and watched her once more. "Can you hear me, if you can give my hand a squeeze" he looked down at their hands and waited for a moment but nothing happened. She must still be out of it.
Then after what felt like a long time he felt a soft squeeze on his hand and he's never been so happy as he was in that moment. "Doctor" he called out and Andrews came in to the room. "She's coming around"
He checked her vitals once more and they were all stable which he was so glad about before he put his eyes back on Caesar "It's going to take a little while yet before she completely comes around but the fact that she's coming around at all is good"
It took another few hours before Emily slowly opened her eyes and reached up for the mask. Her hand was a little bit heavy but she managed to move it down to against her neck and she moved her eyes and started to focus on the room that she was in.
Her eyes then settled on the doctor who was stood at the end of her bed. She gave him a slight smile.
"Amanda, can you understand what I'm saying?" Andrews asked and kept his eyes on her face.
Emily nodded slightly "Yes" she said but she closed her eyes back up once more.
"She's still really drowsy" Andrews said to Caesar and then moved to the other side of the bed. Emily opened her eyes back up and looked towards him once more. "Do you know where you are?"
"In a comfortable bed" she gave a slight smile up at him before she closed her eyes back up yet again.
Andrews laughed softly "Yes they are comfortable but you're in the medical wing of the Triskelion because you had been shot, do you remember that?"
Emily nodded this time, she remembered being shot but she doesn't remember ending up in here.
"Are you in any pain?"
Emily opened her eyes once more and then shook her head "No, not in any pain" she then felt a squeeze on her hand and she moved her eyes over to look at the other person and she gave him a soft smile. "I'm tired"
"Go back to sleep" Caesar nodded once and gave her a slight smile.
Andrews put the mask back up over her nose and mouth and pulled the covers up to keep her warm but at least she was coming around.
While Emily had been under they changed her dressing and the stitches were healing nicely and now that she had come around and wasn't in any pain right now at least she was going to get more rest while she was still under the effects of the painkillers. Andrews looked over at Caesar and sighed "Go home, Agent Laurent, you need rest too and you're not going to be any help to her if you're in here from exhaustion"
Caesar knew that he was right and nodded once to show that he understood before he gave Emily's hand another squeeze and then stood up letting her hand go. He watched Andrews walk out the room and go in the direction of the nurses station and Caesar leaned forward and put his lips to her forehead, staying there for a moment before he moved away and walked out the medical wing.
When Caesar went in the next day he saw that Emily was sat up in bed, they had taken the mask away and gave her a nasal cannula. She was definitely with it a lot more today. When he sat down in his usual chair, taking his jacket off as he did he looked up to see that she was awake and gave her a smile. "How you feeling today?"
"Still tired" she admitted.
"Any pain?"
Emily shook her head "SHIELD has the good stuff" a smile pulled at her lips once more but this time it turned in to a grin. She moved her arm and turned her hand upside down for his and he slid his hand in to hers but being careful that they didn't get noticed. The last thing Emily needed was to have someone tell Fury about all of this and he comes down on them, on her like a ton of bricks right now. "How long have I been in here? Two days?"
"More like nearly a week" he gave a flat smile.
"Jeez" Emily muttered under her breath and sighed softly. She put her brown eyes on him once more "I wish you could get in to the bed with me, I could do with a hug right now"
Caesar would give anything to be able to do that but the only thing he could really do was put his hand on hers and even then that was limited. A smile pulled at his lips and he looked down for a moment before he brought his eyes up to look at her and then said in a whisper for only her to hear "I will hug you when you get out of here"
Emily nodded and smiled once more. "Do you know when I can get out of here?"
"Not yet" a voice came from the doorway and she looked up to see that doctor Andrews was coming in to no doubt do some more tests "But I do have someone who wants to talk to you" he put the tablet down in front of her on the table and then he nudged his head towards the door when it came to Caesar who nodded and squeezed her hand once more and walked out the room, shutting the door behind him.
Her brown eyes settled on the tablet and then answered it when it started ringing and on the other end was the Director and she remembered that on the day she ended up in here they were meant to be meeting face to face. "Director Fury, it's nice to see your face"
"Well at least you still have your sense of humour, Clarke"
She made a noise that sounded like it was close to a laugh. "Well at least nothing changes, what can I do for you, Director?"
"Just checking in to see how you're doing"
"Not in pain, still really tired though so I do apologise if I nod off while you're talking to me. And also I apologise for not making that meeting"
Fury shook his hand "We can reschedule it for when you're back to normal but you know what I'm going to say now don't you"
Emily nodded "You're going to put me on rest for a while"
"We can't have you around while you're still healing so you need to go home when you're discharged and take some time to heal because you're no good to us if you're injured and sent back out in to the field with an injury"
Emily knew that there was only one place she knew how to heal and that wasn't in her apartment, it wasn't in a hotel room or even Caesar's apartment but home.. the beach house. "I promise that I will rest of, Sir" she smiled slightly and rubbed her palm against her eye.
"Get some rest, that's an order Agent Clarke" he nodded once "And we will talk once you get back"
"Yes, sir, thank you and I'll do my best to rest" she smiled again.
"And Clarke.."
"Sir?"
"Don't ever do that to us again, not sure we can take losing any agents right now"
"I'll try my best not to do it again, Director" she nodded.
They then ended their video chat and she leaned her head back against the pillow behind her.
There was a knock on the door and it opened and the dark haired head of a very hot pilot was looking around it and she smiled "You can come back in now" and watched as he pushed the door open wider and walked in to the room but shut the door up a little bit so that Emily could get a little bit of privacy.
"How did it go?" Caesar asked as he sat back down in the chair that he had left a few moments before.
"Not bad but I'm being put on leave so once I'm medically cleared then I have to do resting at home" which if she's being honest wasn't something that Emily was looking forward to. She loved her little beach house in the Hamptons but being out of her mind on painkillers is going to be tough for her.
"Well you do need the rest, you busted your ass for that mission and this is how it ends up" he hated the fact that Emily got shot in the first place and ended up in here, he didn't want anything to happen to her again and if it means her resting for a while then so be it.
Emily watched him and smiled softly before she looked down. "You're worrying again, it's cute" she teased softly bringing her brown eyes to look up at him.
"You should see me in a Nurse's outfit, that really will be cute" he whispered to her.
"Oh!" she laughed softly before groaning a ittle "You need to be careful, I'm hooked up to a heart rate monitor and the last thing I need is for it to go off because my heart rate is rising"
"I apologise" but he couldn't help the smile that appeared on his lips when he said that.
Emily scoffed before she didn't believe that for a single second and his smile that was turning in to a grin was proving her right. She just wanted to get the hell out of here because she hated hospitals and being under the watchful eye of SHIELD was tough when she was a normal agent without adding on the fact they were in the hospital wing plus she wanted to hold on to Caesar.
More days went by and Emily was definitely improving and she was even able to get out of bed but walking had been a bit of a nightmare so every day she walked more and more and once they were happy that she could walk without tiring herself out then they were thinking about letting her go home.
So when Andrews came in and knocked on the door with a smile on his face she felt like she could kiss him because he had been rooting for her to get the hell out of his hospital. There had been days when she was told that maybe she would be able to go home the next day and when the next day came the words 'Sorry Amanda but not today' would always make her feel like she was never getting out of here but when he walked in with that smile she knew that today was going to be a good day.
"Am I getting out of here?" she asked around lunchtime probably a week after waking up.
"Yes, you're getting out of here, today" Andrews nodded once with a grin.
Emily leaned her head back against the pillow behind her and couldn't help the cry that she didn't even feel coming on but it happened because she was so damn relieved at the fact she was going home.
She signed out and wanted to walk but unfortunately she was still a little unsteady on her feet so she had to have a wheelchair. Caesar brought her stuff with him and actually pushed her out. There was a quinjet waiting for her downstairs and while Caesar wanted to be the one to take her home he also knew that she wouldn't actually be going home.
They passed people that gave her warm wishes and honestly she didn't know any of these people and more often than that she wondered if someone had put something in their coffees because SHIELD agents weren't this nice.
They got in to the elevator and went down to the hangar and she looked down towards where she had collapsed and she felt her heart pounding hard in her chest. This time Emily decided to walk up the ramp and sat in the seats that were uncomfortable. Caesar got on the quinjet with her and sat at her side.
She gave the pilot the place to go out and sat back in her seat for a ride to Southampton in New York. A place she kept hidden to Caesar not because she was embarrassed by it but because it was her peaceful place. Her sanctuary.
The flight took a little bit and the next thing she knows they are landing on the grass of the old Grayson manor and when the ramp was lowered and she stood up, taking her bag from Caesar she looked at him as he stood up. "You need to go back, I'll be okay here" she whispered at him and smiled slightly. She wanted to kiss him so badly. Emily wanted to kiss him but in the end all she did was grab hold of his hand and give it a squeeze before she slowly walked down the ramp, the walk was a little frightening especially when she felt a little bit unsteady still but being stubborn she wanted to walk out on her own.
Emily knew that once she stepped off the ramp she wouldn't be able to see the quinjet because it was cloaked so before she stepped off she turned and looked at Caesar and gave him a smile and a nod before she turned away and stepped down on to the grass of the former Grayson manor and then away from the quinjet towards her beach house on the other side.

-.-
More days went by and Emily was definitely improving and she was even able to get out of bed but walking had been a bit of a nightmare so every day she walked more and more and once they were happy that she could walk without tiring herself out then they were thinking about letting her go home.
