It felt like she was coming home every time she came to New Orleans, she had the roof down on her new car, which she required through compulsion if she's being honest but if anyone was to ask her about that then she would have to compel them to forget that she had compelled someone to get her car.
The noise was the best part about this place and as she had parked her car up outside of the place she would be staying she smiled to herself. There was something about New Orleans that just seemed to call to her or it could be the fact that this was where she had realised how happy she had been after London all those years ago.
Katherine looked up at the house that she had owned since her and Adrian had lived here in the 20s. It was beautiful and sometimes rented out but she decided to come down to get away from Mystic and once she had put her bag onto her bed in the main bedroom she then left as soon as she could taking her purse with her and putting the sunglasses on over her dark eyes. If it wasn't for the fact she had made Mystic her home then she would definitely move down here but she wasn't sure if she could move further away from Jon. She was already over an hour and a half away from him and while she could probably run there and back in that time she wasn't sure if he would want to travel all the way down to New Orleans just to see her.
The French Quarter was her favourite place and as she walked along Bourbon street she looked at the places that were allowed to be open and the ones unfortunately not allowed. A man came out of the restaurant on the corner, called Cornet, and asked her if she wanted to sit on the balcony and eat. Katherine could smell the humanity of him and not once did she feel like ripping his throat out but she smiled as he had the protective mask over his head and then looked up at the yellow umbrellas that helped to keep the sun off of those that were sitting up there. "I'd love too" she admitted with a nod before he then walked her in and found someone to take her upstairs to the balcony.
The sun was hot on her skin when she sat down at the table and took her mask off. Katherine ordered herself some food and drink and watched as people walked passed. There was a fleeting throught because they were on the corner of a crossroads that she wondered if any demons came here to make deals. She hoped not, it was bad enough that there were other things in this city without adding the demons on top of it.
Katherine had finished up eating the steak and fries that was just divine and had been looking over the balcony that when she looked back she found that she wasn't alone at the table because sitting opposite was someone that she hadn't spoken to since she had been here last and that was a while ago.
"I thought I heard you arrive, Katerina"
Katherine smiled slightly at the sound of her real name but then again he didn't call her anything else. Yet she never really remembered giving it to him. She left the money and grabbed her purse before putting her mask on and then walking with him back through the food joint and out in to the warm sunshine. "So, you run the French Quarter now?" she asked and looked over at him as she pulled her mask down. If she wanted to appear more human then she was going to have to play the part.
"No, Klaus does but you already know that don't you"
"Ah, Klaus is back in town" Katherine was not that surprised, he had a habit of coming back here to New Orleans. It was after all his favourite place and as he kept reminding people they did help build New Orleans.
Something came to Katherine's mind and it was from a long time ago but her brain was good for keeping information. "You once said that I look like someone you knew, who was that?" she asked as they walked along Bourbon Street. Her mind was a bit more open especially after that girl that Adrian was dating in London, Lexi. Doppelgangers can't really be that common but thinking about it now, had there been more of well people like her?
Elijah done the button up on his suit jacket as they walked. "I thought I had been imagining it, a lost love I had brought forward with me but that's not it, you look exactly the same" he then put his hands into his pockets "Her name was Tatia and she had been my wife"
Before Adrian rang her up asking if she was playing a joke on him with appearing in London she had never thought there would be someone else wearing her face. She had looked in to it and it had taken her a while before she got the information back to her old love. "Do you believe in Doppelgangers, Elijah?" she asked and looked over at him. "They are a rare thing but they can happen"
"A bit like Vampires, Werewolves and Witches?" he asked in a soft tease and then smiled at her, well it was more of a smirk than a smile.
"Or Dracula" she said and looked forward.
"Ah, yes Drake, a pain in everyone's ass, how are you coping with that?"
Katherine sighed softly "I haven't dreamt about him for a very long time" she admitted. In fact the last time she had screamed his name out in her sleep she had been with Adrian. Though there was always something coming up about Jack the Ripper murders of Whitechapel. For most parts she was able to push those away and continue with her day but there were times when she had drank a whole bottle of JD and rang up Jon asking him stupid questions.
She didn't dare ring up Adrian even though she yearned to talk to him, he had been there when she screamed at night, when she tossed and turned in bed, how she had pretty much became a shadow of herself but it was always Jon she rang up too afraid to speak to the one man who knew just what she had gone through all those decades after leaving London.
But to push her thoughts of Adrian and Drake away she looked over at Elijah and said "Tell me more about Tatia"
"Well like I said she was my wife-" he was then interrupted by Katherine.
"So does that mean we're related?"
Elijah scoffed and then smiled "No, she already had a son by her first husband but he had died in battle and she had this radiant beauty that all men in the village wanted to be with her but she only had eyes for one person"
"You" to which Elijah nodded once.
"And for a long time we were happy, but it wasn't to last" he admitted and sighed before stopping suddenly and turning to look at her "You have to understand that I didn't know what was happening but I craved her blood after I had turned and for a long time I stopped myself from wanting to do the unspeakable thing but even I, the apparently most respectable of Mikaelson's, couldn't curb the craving and then one night she caught me feeding with my brother and I tried to explain but how could I explain that I had become a monster"
"You killed her?" she asked and looked up at him when they had stopped but she knew the answer to that without even realising it. Of course he killed her and that's why when he saw her all those decades before he looked like he had seen a ghost. "I still remember the day that Jon found out I was a vampire, I told him it was my curse and It has been" she admitted. "I am over 800 years old and while the world keeps changing it just feels the longer I am alive the more destruction I see, the more I long to be with my family with my Mia"
"Would this Jon like to hear you talk like this?" Elijah had been somewhat lucky because of the fact his mother had turned his siblings, or rather unlucky which ever way someone wanted to look at it, but he could never imagine having to leave those people behind. It would destroy him if he lost his siblings even though they spent most of their lives at war with each other but if someone was to come after them they would all band together.
"I'm not suicidal if that's what you're thinking" but she doesn't know what Jon would say about that because she's never told him. Though something told her that maybe he felt the same way, they were impossible things even though they completely different. Jon being human, Katherine and Adrian Vampires and Edric.. well she didn't know what he was other than the fact he was a very tall and grumpy dog.
"This is a very personal question but have you ever turned someone?"
Katherine then started up walking and Elijah was at her side, she has only ever turned two people but the second one was a secret that she has never told anyone but her first ever turn had been Adrian when Tristan had begged her to save his brother, she had turned him down. Katherine would never put this on her own daughter, it shouldn't be pushed on to someone's brother but Tristan didn't care. He wanted his brother alive even when she told him that he wouldn't technically be alive he didn't care. When she turned him, she had cried afterwards but sat in a room with him until he woke up. Just to make sure that everything had gone well enough, she had explained what had happened and then left the choice up to him on whether he drank the blood or not. Katherine didn't force it on someone and of course Adrian had drank it and had hated her for a very long time after that.
It was when Tristan was dying that he had requested her presence at his bedside but seeing as she had 'died' a long time before she had to come under the cover of darkness and compell anyone to forget she had been there. He had apologised for getting her to turn Adrian and asked her for a favour once more and that was to look after his brother. To be the good in his bad, to keep him on the right track and for a long time she had, for a long time she had been the pain in his ass that he didn't want but she kept her promise. Right up til the moment she had broke him in London.
"I've turned only one person" she knew it was a lie but the other person she didn't want to be revealed.
"That is surprising because usually there are a lot more blood on our hands than just one person but you don't seem to want to populate the Vampire family line and that is impressive"
"Trust me, I'm not here to impress you I'm here to have a break" and with that she walked away from him but that didn't mean she couldn't sense his smile.
"See you soon, Miss Petrova" he said and with that this time she smiled.
"Not too soon I hope, Mr Mikaelson"
After all Katherine wanted to have some peace and this was her safe haven, she just wanted some time to herself and not be pulled in to politics in the French Quarter and as long as she didn't cause any trouble then there was no need for the supernatural police, aka Marcel, to come knocking on her door.
She got back to her place and she walked up onto the balcony looking over the French Quarter and she knew that she was home and safe. Katherine wondered if she could actually move here, because it was here that she had began to feel normal again and it was here in this house that had things she had stored here over the years.
Katherine had never told Jon about this place and it was mostly because she didn't want to have to explain that she had fallen in love with Adrian, that for a long time it had been the two of them and they had settled here and was happy.
She closed her eyes and just let the sound of New Orleans wash over her and a smile pulled at her lips once more.
