The day had felt long and really it was only about 1pm but Lexi had finished, she was only doing the nine til one slot because they had others coming in after her and she was heading back to Adrian's apartment, he wouldn't be there because apparently he had something on but she was definitely letting herself in.
She said goodbye to the girls in the coffee shop and was happy to know that Adrian's apartment wasn't that far from the shop and it was definitely warm out; not as warm as Corpus Christi, but this was the UK so their hot was definitely different from Texas.
Lexi put her shades on and her bag over her hip and the strap over her shoulder before she started walking down the street towards the apartment but something was off, something felt wrong and it was then as she glanced in a car that she was passing that she realised she was being followed.
She was too tired for this shit but she didn't let on that she knew someone was following her, instead she carried on towards the apartment. Lexi knew there was an opening coming up and she decided to duck down there quickly and as the man came to the opening she pulled him in and put something against his neck; unfortunately it wasn't her knife, that was back in the US, so she had to use her car keys instead.
"Who are you?" She demanded and watched the guy's wide eyes looking at her face.
"The face of beauty" he said and just about managed to move his eyes over her face "you really are the same, aren't you?"
Lexi swallowed hard and wondered if this had something to do with Katherine, the vampire who she looked exactly like, she wondered if this was all to do with her. "I will ask again, who are you?"
"My name is Michael" he just about got out as whatever it was at his throat was shovered there a little bit harder. "I have a letter for you, Miss Katherine"
Lexi's fears came true, so this was to do with Katherine and she wondered whether or not she really wanted to deal with this; if she wanted too thens he could pretend to be Katherine but she had been around a very long time, maybe even made some enemies and that would end up getting Lexi killed if she didn't watch out but this was the first time someone had said they had a letter for her, or rather for Katherine.
Against her better judgement she found herself getting a little bit curious as to why they had a letter for her and why would someone in London have a letter for Katherine?
Lexi knew that Adrian would probably be pissed if he found out about all of this but she slowly dropped her key from his neck and put it in to her bag. "What's the letter?" she asked and looked at him "and if it to trap me then I will personally make it my mission in life to hunt you down and rip your throat out" she might as well act like Katherine if she was going to pass for her right now.
"No tricks, no traps, just a letter that has been waiting for you to come back to London" he reached into his inside pocket and pulled it up before handing it over. "It's a private letter so I will be waiting for you out there" he pointed to the opening of the alleyway and was grateful that she would let him go.
Lexi looked at the letter but it seemed a little more heavier than a normal letter and anyway; who sends letters nowadays? Wasn't all done on computers and smart phones?
She turned the envelope over and saw on there in beautiful writing My dearest Katherine.
Lexi wasn't sure that she wanted to open this letter especially when it was actually written for the ex vampire love of her current boyfriend. What would Adrian say if he knew she was getting involved in Katherine's business? The last thing she wanted to do was hurt him but she was finding herself being curious over a woman she looked exactly like, well apart from the eyes. Katherine's was dark but Lexi's were golden. That was the only thing in facial that showed they were different which is why she doesn't understand how Michael could pass this letter on to her.
She took a deep breath and then decided to open the letter and as she did some keys fell out of the envelope and she pushed her eyebrows together; why would someone be leaving Katherine some keys? Lexi didn't understand that at all but decided to grab the letter out anyway.
24th April 1920
Dear Katherine,
If you are receiving this letter then it's what I feared, I have passed.
It's been so long since I last saw you that I oftened wondered where you were and whether you were alright, I had no children so I thought it was only right to give you back the keys to the house that is surprisingly still standing after the war, I know a lot of people have lost everything but somehow the house still stands.
I entrusted your secret with a friend of mine, I'm not sure how long it will be before this letter reaches you so if the mans name isn't Derek then it really is a long time.
How are you, old friend? I know that you signed the house over to me before you left London but it's always been your home, dear Katherine. A home that I know holds memories for you. There is still a lot of your stuff there and I promised that I would look after it for you and now it's only fair that I pass it back to it's original owner.
I am old now and I fear that my time is ending but yours is still continuing and I hope that you and Adrian are both safe, I still remember the look on your face when you were packing so quickly but I hope that you are alright now. I hope that whatever frightened you so much that you had to leave isn't doing it now.
The years have been tough but in the end we have overcome so much.
The house is yours to do with what you please, after all it is still the first home you had in London back in 1888.
Goodbye old friend
Maria
Lexi looked down at the keys in her hand and wondered if the house was still standing after two wars. She moved from where she was standing to the mouth of the alleyway and asked "And the house is still standing, even now?"
"We had to do some repairs to it but yes the house is still standing, it surprised everyone"
Yeah, I bet it did.
This Maria mentioned Adrian so that meant that he had been here before but she couldn't help wondering just what brought him back to the place?
"Would you like to see the house?" Michael asked and watched her.
"Yes, yes I think I would like that" Lexi smiled and nodded at him before following after; she knew that this was dangerous but she was so curious to see what the house looked like.
It took them a while to get to the house but when they parked up outside of it she could see that it looked pretty, there was steps leading up to the doorway and there clearly used to be a sign that wasn't there now and she couldn't help thinking about what the sign would've said and honestly she wasn't sure she could even think up the idea of what it said.
Lexi got out of the car and played with the keys that she had been given before she walked up the steps. She pushed the key into the lock and turned before the door opened and she swallowed hard, something told her that this was where she might understand Katherine a little better than the vampire who broke Adrian's heart but she would have to see.
She stepped over the threshold and into the house.
She said goodbye to the girls in the coffee shop and was happy to know that Adrian's apartment wasn't that far from the shop and it was definitely warm out; not as warm as Corpus Christi, but this was the UK so their hot was definitely different from Texas.
