She waited in the queue at the coffee shop and as she did she couldn’t help but try to pick out what she was going to eat. Charlie could really use a coffee and definitely some cake. The woman in front of her was becoming rather slow because she couldn’t decide if she wanted to get a doughnut or a muffin and right now she really wanted to tell the woman to get both and take one of them home. Her friend’s wedding was in a few days and while she really shouldn’t be having any cakes she was in desperate need of one.
Finally the woman moved away and it was Charlie’s turn and she hadn’t even picked out what she would be having but the girl behind the counter didn’t seem that bothered at the fact that Charlie was looking up at the menu to pick out what she was going to be having. The sun was shining and it was warm out so she decided to go for a cold drink and the cinnamon bun that looked rather delicious. The dark haired girl said she would bring it right over and Charlie smiled before taking a seat at the table she had her eye on when she came in, the one right by the window.
Lexi watched the woman move towards the table there seemed to be something familiar about her but she just couldn’t put her finger on it. She wasn’t sure if she had seen her face before or if it was down to the fact that she was feeling a little tired right now. It seemed like the warm weather brought the people to the coffee shops more here but it was nice to be busy but she was still sure that she knew that woman who was sitting by the window and looked like they were going over some things.
Charlie looked at the list of the stuff that she needed to do and it still seemed like a lot between starting work at the hospital and trying to help Morgan with her wedding it was definitely a lot but she had left Mo to her husband to be because as much as she loved her best friend she was starting to turn into bridezilla and with a doctor at work that looked at her as if she was completely insane it was definitely causing her to second guess everything that she was doing. She tapped her pen against the paper gently and looked out of the window.
Lexi was allowed to go on her break and as she did she took the woman by the windows order over “Your wedding” she asked and looked down at the paper before bringing her brown eyes up to look at the dark haired woman. She had her own list like that before and knew the signs of planning a wedding. It was lengthy and definitely stressful so she really didn’t envy this woman for doing a wedding. In fact she actually felt a little bit of pity for her because of the tasks that she would have to do in order to make sure everything was perfect.
Charlie looked up at the voice and smiled her thanks at the order being brought over. “Oh, no that is my friend’s wedding, I’m just trying to help her out but honestly she can be a bit difficult with everything and has turned very horrible” she laughed softly before taking a sip of her drink. “I thought I would help out” she admitted after swallowing her drink “But honestly I really wished I hadn’t because I get a phone call every five minutes just to make sure that everything is perfect” she sighed softly.
“Oh god, that does sound like it’s very hard work” she admitted with her own laugh. Lexi really hoped that she hadn’t been like that when she was planning her own wedding and she definitely hadn’t been like that when she was planning James and Jess’ wedding. Even if she did want everything to be perfect herself. James had trusted her with a big task and Lexi was sure that she had pulled it off alright.
“I definitely don’t want to be in the wedding business” Charlie admitted.
Lexi called for a coffee before she pointed to the chair “Do you mind?” Charlie shook her head and held her hand out towards the chair as if to tell her ‘take a seat’ and Lexi did do that before she looked at the list and then grimaced “That definitely is a lot if she wants ice sculptors there too” she put the list back and then smiled up at one of her work friends who brought the coffee over before she leaned forward and took a sip of the black stuff. It felt like she hadn’t had a coffee all day.
“You’re not from here are you?” Charlie asked and watched as she took a drink of coffee as if her life depended on it. “America?”
“Texas” Lexi admitted. “Lexi Richards” she smiled.
“Charlotte Brandon but everyone calls me Charlie, it’s nice to meet you, so what brought you to the UK Lexi?” she asked and then took a bite of her bun before putting her blue eyes on the girl sitting opposite her. She was very pretty and had that olive colour skin that looked as if Lexi had a permanent suntan. It looked good on her.
“Well originally I came here to look at my family history, to see just all about the scandal but I ended up meeting someone so I decided to stay for a little bit just to see if it will work out and it’s looking good so far” but then again she said that about her marriage to Jake and that lasted about four years so she will just have to see how her relationship with Adrian really does go. But so far so good. “What about you? You from London and that probably does sound like the most stupid thing to say but I have met people that have moved to London from Scotland so it’s probably better to ask rather than assume”
Charlie laughed softly after she finished eating before she answered. “I’m not actually from London, I’m from Cornwall down in the South West and it’s so pretty there but I wanted to work in the City and I’m definitely working there but in a hospital, I’m a nurse and just started actually”
“That sounds promising” Lexi admitted before she took a sip of her coffee once more “What hospital is it?”
“Kings College Hospital but there is a doctor at work that I’m pretty sure doesn’t actually like me because she watches me like a hawk” in fact the doctor looked like Lexi, olive skin, dark hair and even darker eyes that always made her feel like she was being judged all the time but she guessed that was what they did just to make sure that everything was done properly and that Charlie was keeping up with everything. Even so she still felt judged.
Lexi felt like he knew who that doctor was going to be, it didn’t take her that long to figure out that Charlie and Jeyne were working at the same hospital and was probably keeping an eye on the new girl but for her to be going on about Jeyne in that manner it was hard to understand just why she would think that Jeyne didn’t like her. She was about to say something when something caught Lexi’s eye and she looked to see it was a necklace against Charlie’s top and there on it was the Stark direwolf and the Isildur symbol and now she was starting to understand why. This woman was part of the family too.
“That’s rather pretty” Lexi said and pointed at the necklace. “Family thing?” she asked and smiled before leaning her arms against the table and then putting her weight against them.
Charlie grabbed hold of the necklace and then looked down at the pendant before chewing on her lip. “Apparently yes, some heirloom or something but I’m not sure why it would relate to my family” she admitted before letting the pendant go and looking back at Lexi. “I did try looking up the symbols on there but found nothing so I guess it’s a nice story of it being an heirloom but it was probably brought at a market or something” she shrugged up a shoulder.
Lexi tapped the mug with her finger and chewed on her own lip. Sometimes it was hard to get people to believe in things because they never expected it to happen to them, she remembered trying to get Luca to believe but that was hard too. He couldn’t believe that they were the same family sigils or that they were related but for some reason he now believes everything and seems happy enough to include her in stuff but they definitely were distantly related. Even if Adrian had said that Jeyne seemed to be taken with him but to Lexi he looked so much like Durin who was married to her ancestor Mia.
“You should definitely get it checked out because sometimes our heirlooms can actually surprise us in a big way” Lexi admitted and then nodded before giving the woman across from her a soft smile. But she did have to admit that even she had been surprised when Adrian filled in the blanks of what the symbols meant. So maybe someone would help Charlie with her search but for now she knew she couldn’t spring this on her especially when it seemed like she was stressing out over this friend’s wedding.
“I just might” Charlie replied with her own smile.
The two sat there talking about different things until Lexi had to go back to work and Charlie had gone back to her list of things she had to do and as if Morgan knew she was thinking about her there was a phone call and the woman on the other end was stressing out about napkins and what colour table cloths that Charlie had to get but honestly there was only a part of her that was listening because the other half of her was thinking about the necklace around her neck and she even pulled gently on the pendant before letting her blue eyes look down at it. It was pretty that much she would admit and had been in her family for a very long time but even she had thought it was a bunch of BS and she hadn’t told Lexi the truth about the pendant because she didn’t want the other woman to laugh so she had kept quiet on the subject of this but she was definitely going to look up about the pendant just to make sure that it was in fact real.
“Calm down Morgan I’m on my way now” she said and then got up from the table before grabbing her bag and then putting the stuff back in to it. Morgan was in a state and that was the last thing that Charlie even wanted and she knew she couldn’t stay long because this weekend was the start of her working nights and with the May bank holiday coming she was working that to and wouldn’t have much time to spend with her best friend so she might as well get everything done now while she was available rather than just let everything sit idle on her desk at home.
Charlie moved from the table and then gave a wave to Lexi before she left the coffee shop. It was nice to talk to the America woman and she knew that she had found her new favourite coffee shop and knew she would be back especially when the staff seemed nice here. It was hard moving from Cornwall to London but to know that Lexi moved to another country maybe the two of them could be friends because they both were far from home but something told her that she would like London but her job would probably be something different. But for now she was going to be living it up as much in London as she could.
Lexi liked Charlie and even liked talking to her so it was nice to know that there was something linking them even if it was far distantly than either of them could really understand. It was still strange to Lexi that all of this was happening at once. First she found Adrian, then Jeyne, then Luca and now Charlie and they all seemed like family but something told her that there was a deeper connection to Charlie than to any of them but she wasn’t sure what. She had slowly started to find out that she was related to Jeyne too and that she was Durin’s mother, the woman that was written into Mia’s journals. So it would only seem fitting that she would have a connection with Luca something clearly Adrian didn’t know about and no one seemed inclined to actually share with the vampire but she was sure enough that one day he would find out and then maybe he wouldn’t start wanting to get Jeyne with Luca.
Who knows how all of this was going to play out but one thing was for certain that they had all found each other and yet she wasn’t sure why that was but maybe they would find out soon enough but for now she was going to be enjoying her time in London and have fun with Adrian. The man that seemed to make her heart pound in ways that she never thought would be possible again after her break up with Jake but she was happy and that was all that was enough for her. Lexi was happy with Adrian and he seemed happy with her and even Jeyne had stopped looking at her as if she was trying to pick her apart and see which bit was Katherine and which bit was Lexi. And she was more than happy with that.
Finally the woman moved away and it was Charlie’s turn and she hadn’t even picked out what she would be having but the girl behind the counter didn’t seem that bothered at the fact that Charlie was looking up at the menu to pick out what she was going to be having.
