Katherine wasn't sure if she even believed that he didn't know. This boy really was the reason why Mia had been so heartbroken, why she had slipped into loneliness but now she was better and it wasn't because of him. "I don't care why you're here" she admitted and watched him. "I don't care if you're lost for whatever reason or just come here to check on the hat stand, I want you gone because you won't make amends with her"
She turned and went to walk away from the weirwood but then she glanced back at him. "I believed that you would make my daughter happy when she was older, I had hoped that you would marry her because I believed in you that much, now... I would rather not see your face in this castle ever again" she said and left that as the final word before she walked out of the wood and across the courtyard. Katherine knew that the future with Eoin could be in jeopardy with what she had said but she wanted to get the message over to Ro that he wasn't welcome anymore here in Winterfell.
Katherine moved up the steps into the Great Hall and tried looking for Mia but she guessed that she was with the Lord that she had been spending some time with. She never wanted this to happen, she only wanted for her daughter to follow her heart and that heart had been to Ro when they were younger and she did believe that they would be together but after he left her Kat decided it was best to be a little hard on her and have her pick someone that was worthy of her heart even if it meant that she married a Lord. If Jon found out that Ro was back then he would more likely try to bring Kat around and she couldn't have that.
No she made her mind up and the sooner that boy was out of this castle and out of Mia's life the happier everyone would be.

The words strike him hard, as if she had delivered a blow across the face rather than a demand for him to leave. But she walks away before Ro can even begin to formulate a response, his tongue feeling like lead in his mouth. He watches her leave until the godswood becomes silent and empty once more. He had been hesitant about the response he'd get when he returned, worried about the possibilities. And yet somehow, this is still worse than all of the scenarios he ran through his mind. He had not thought that Mia might welcome him back, but Katherine would force him away.
After a long moment, he releases a slow, shuddering breath, and relaxes the hand that had turned into a fist without him realizing. His fingers prickle as the blood rushes back, his grip so tight his nails left rivets in the leather palm of his glove. Setting his jaw, pulling in a long, deep breath, and squaring his shoulders, he moves forward on heavy legs.
He speaks to no one as he leaves the castle grounds, not even acknowledging the guards posted at the door. They step aside for him without a word, his expression enough to leave them considering against making conversation. He's sure Katherine told them of his imminent departure either way.
Winter's Town still bustles in the dwindling sun, but the sense of wonderment and nostalgia has long faded from his veins. Now he just wants a drink. Or twelve. It does not take him long to find a tavern, scorch marks still staining the stone from the battle years ago, the sign old and swaying in the breeze, reading Winter's Respite. He pushes open the door and steps in, ignoring the slow quiet that falls across the few patrons already here as he walks with purpose towards the barman, eyes following his trek across the room. "Ale," he mutters, digging in the pouch for coin and setting it roughly onto the wooden counter before dropping into a chair.
"Aye, comin' right up." The barman replies with a slight nervous hesitation to his words, sliding the coin towards himself and eyeing the seal of Rohan on it. But it's silver, and no one passes up silver.

Mia couldn't even look Horse lord in the face, no matter how many times she had tried to, no matter how many times she brought her eyes up to look at him; in her eyes he wasn't Ro. They had been about to kiss that she was sure of but her mother had put a stop to it and now she wondered just what it would feel like to be kissed by him this time. Last time she had been adamant that she wouldn't ever kiss him but they both had been on the verge of doing it and something had told her that it would be different this time.
Of course after they had kissed last time and got squeamish at the fact they had kissed they had slipped their hands together and they held on tightly to each other as if there wasn't anyone else they would rather be with.
"Princess" the voice called to her through her thoughts and she looked up at him finally and gave a forced smile but he didn't seem to notice anyway.
"I apologise" she said after a moment before then taking another walk with him. The only thing that she wanted to do was get back to Ro but it felt like her mother would keep her busy for a long time.
"Are you dreaming about the wedding?" he snorted and then laughed with his full teeth again.
Mia laughed too and looked down before shivering slightly, she would rather jump off of the tallest tower at Durinhall than marry this Lord and she wanted to say that; wanted to say that she wasn't going to marry him now or ever. But she couldn't because of the fact she didn't want her mother to look so disappointed at her as she had led this man to believe that they could have something after three tries and then decide that actually she didn't want anything to do with him.

He's two pints deep, starting to feel bleary and warm around the edges, when the door opens behind him.
The sun had finally set behind the trees and hilltops, bringing with it an icy night chill that sweeps in through the tavern. He gives a full-bodied shake, remembering a different kind of cold, but the feeling quickly subsides as a third pint is set before him. He slides the coin over, and the barkeep takes it and tucks it his apron as Roe lifts the wooden tankard to his mouth. If there's something his people are known for, it's their drinking habits. Aye, they might get drunk quick, but they can keep drinking and drinking long past anyone else he's ever known. He's seen Bilbo stumble home from the festivals of Ash, still coherent enough to sing loudly and badly, while Thorin had to carry Kili upon his back.
And Ro feels like seeing just how many drinks it will take him until the floor slaps him in the face. After his conversation with Queen Katherine, after all of it, there sounds like nothing better.
He gulps down a few hearty swallows before coming back up for air, setting the tankard back onto the counter. He only becomes aware of the trio who've stepped in from the cold night when an elbow bumps his shoulder, catching his attention. Ro glances slightly to the side, looking towards the man who'd hit him, seeing and smelling a fisherman.
"A round for us, Alfie," the man says, motioning to himself and his friends before taking the seat directly beside him. Ro sighs faintly, wanting to not be bothered, wanting to wallow in misery without bumped shoulders and the smell of sea wafting around his head. So he moves, sliding down one seat away from the three, and bringing his ale and sword with him. The man notices, looking after him and momentarily sucking on his teeth as he glances Ro over. Ro ignores him, lifting the tankard back to his mouth. "What are you 'sposed to be?" The man asks. Loudly. His accent sounds too southern for Winterfell, no doubt a man brought here by the opened trade. Ro flicks his blue eyes towards him, pausing. But with a small shake of his head, he continues on drinking, not willing to participate in this. The man snorts and looks to his friends, who are all taking seats as well and greedily taking the tankards Alfie passes over. "Look at 'im. Fancy armor. Thinkin' he's too good to sit next to us."
"Just minding my business." Ro replies, looking straight ahead and slowly lowering his ale.
"A little too late for that don't'cha think?" The man continues, turning in his chair to stare straight at Ro's profile. There's a beat, before the fisherman nudges Ro's spear-sword, leaning against the bar, with the toe of his boot. "Nice piece of hardware." He comments, but it sounds like an insult coming from his lips, a joke. His friends clear their throats and distract themselves with their drinks, clearly having been here with this man before. "Y'know, I recognize those symbols of yours. Seen 'em in my time. Seen 'em down South where that new King and his pretty wife are." Ro keeps drinking. "And funny thing...I heard word today about a little birdie comin' to Winterfell from the same place those symbols come from. Calls himself the Champion of the Wilds. Says he killed an archdemon, whatever the fuck that is." And keeps drinking. The barkeep nervously starts cleaning a glass, looking more at Ro than anyone else. "You don't look like no champion."
Ro sets down his tankard and wipes the ale from his lips with the back of his hand. "Then maybe you should bother someone else."

Thankfully Lord horse had left Winterfell and it gave Mia time to herself and it made her come to her senses when it came to the fact that she didn't want to marry him and then there was the whole telling her mother so she waited til Katherine was alone before she even went near the Great Hall. Sometimes she would find her mother on her own and that was the best time to actually tell her her decision but everytime she went to go into the hall she found herself wanting to run away.
"You can come in" Katherine called down to her and then looked up and raised her eyebrow just in time to see Amelia peek around the door and she beckoned her into the hall with her. Katherine watched as her daughter moved towards her and then sat down on the table underneath the top table and was looking up at her while she looked down at Amelia. "Whats wrong?"
"I can tell you anything, right?" Mia asked and started to play with her fingers, she usually done that when she was nervous and right now she was really nervous and the last thing she wanted was for her to shout.
"You know you can" she said and sat back in her seat. "How did your day with Lord Westerling go?" she asked and watched as Mia played with her fingers and she knew that that was a bad sign.
"I don't want to marry him mother" she said after a moment and looked up at Katherine.

"Tommen," Alfie says quietly, "Perhaps you should just go about your business, eh? Leave the man alone."
"Yeah, c'mon Tommen," one of the friends says timidly, eyeing Ro with a cautious eye, lingering first on the armor, and then the scars on his arm.
The fisherman snorts, sneering towards the barkeep, "You think I'm afraid of 'im? It's probably all lies. Just like all the stories that come out of Rohan. Lies and fairy-tales and ghouls. And now we got one of 'em as King and another one crowdin' up our bar." Tommen continues, looking back to Ro with a bit too much confidence lingering in his eye. "So, tell me, Champion," he toes out again, bumping the sword, and it falls against Ro's arm heavily. Roe sets his tankard down carefully, and slowly slides it to the far end of the bar away from himself, giving Alfie a knowing yet apologetic look. The barkeep fidgets nervously for a moment before taking it, and setting it back behind the counter where it can't be spilled. Ro carefully picks up his spear-sword, and sets it on the other side of himself, leaving it out of reach. "How'd you get that name? Did you suck a king's cock just like your unc-"
The words barely have time to leave his mouth before Ro is reaching down to grab onto the fisherman's ankle, giving him a hard pull. Tommen slips suddenly from his seat, falling with a yelp -- but not far. Before he can hit the ground, Ro's fingers fist in the front of his shirt, pulling him back up right to Ro's face. He still sits squarely upon his chair, having not moved save for his arm and hand. Tommen's friends react automatically, jumping from their chairs and leaping back a few steps as a quiet falls over the bar.
Tommen swings out a startled fist but, even bleary, Ro blocks it by raising his left forearm, and Tommen's wrist connects painfully with the steel plates wrapped there. Ro lets his arm fall back upon the counter, resting there almost lazily as he holds Tommen aloft. "You want to know why they call me Champion?" Ro asks, arching a dark brow. Tommen looks wearily towards Alfie, clearly rethinking his decision. But Roe forces the man to look back at him, the clawed fingers of his gauntlet digging into his cheeks. For a moment, as the fisherman looks at him, Ro's eyes flare like a stoked flame. "So do I."
He shoves Tommen back, and the man trips over his won unprepared feet and falls hard onto his ass on the floorboards of the tavern. His friends rush forward to scoop him up, but Ro just turns back towards Alfie. "Another, please."

Katherine looked over at Amelia for another moment before she finally says "Well I don't blame you, he's not exactly the best looking lord of the lot" she said and smiles. "Something about those teeth" she laughs softly and cant help but watch as Mia laughs too. She liked it when she laughed because it was a happy sound and Kat like that sound more than anything.
"I think he might've ate his horse" she snorted before looking down. "I'm glad that you're not mad that I don't want to marry him" Amelia said after a moment before looking back up at her mother. "You're not mad, right?"
"Of course not, I mean I wouldn't want to marry him if I were you either but there is the others you can choose from"
At that Mia's heart sank and she looked down once more. "No I think you misunderstood what I was saying, I don't want to marry any of them" she knew that she was in trouble now but it was the truth, Mia couldn't marry any of them because she wanted Ro or at least that's what she thought anyway. She would definitely have to sort her feelings out at some point and putting off any wedding arrangements were the only thing she could think of.
"Amelia, we have been over this, you have to marry one of them"
Mia sighed and looked up at her. "No" she finally said and shook her head "No, I really don't, you never married father and you're happy so why do I have to marry someone I don't love? Aunt Sansa didn't, Jeyne didn't... you didn't with my real father so why are you making me?" she said and stood up so that she was looking straight at her mother.
Katherine hated seeing her like this and if there was one thing she could do it would be to explain just why she was forcing this on her and it seemed like it wouldn't be the right time to do that when Mia was so agitated to the point that she could see anger on her face. The one thing she would never do was compel her to do anything so whatever Mia decided would have to keep her waiting for now.
"You can't even tell me, can you?" she said and shook her head before scoffing and walking back down the length of the Great Hall and ran into a man just as she was coming out of it. "The Queen is busy" she said and then watched as the man seemed to want to tell someone so Mia finally took the message and made the man tell her just where the fight was and she looked back at Katherine before she moved out of the doors and ran towards the gates and raised an eyebrow at the guards there before she moved in the direction of the tavern.
Mia sighed softly and looked up at the name before shaking her head and opening the door. The place seemed to quiet as they looked in her direction, not that there were a lot of people in there and she looked around before finding Ro before she moved up to his side. "I think you've had enough for the night" she raised an eyebrow at Ro before putting her hand on his arm that was exposed "Let me take you back to the castle"

Ro is halfway through his next pint, drinking it down as if his life depends on it, when the door opens again behind him.
The two friends of the fisherman had carried Tommen off to a table in a back corner, out of sight and out of the way, despite the man's protesting and swearing. But Ro has ignored him since, preoccupied with his drink. The barkeep hides a faint smile to himself as he continues cleaning glasses, seemingly appeased by the turn of events. He gathers that Tommen is a common nuisance, and scuffles are far more enjoyable for a tavern owner if nothing gets broken. Seven hells, now he even has a story.
The night the Champion of the Wilds told a cock of a fisherman to piss off.
He's nearing the last dregs of his ale, already thirsting for more, when a hand comes to rest upon his arm. He doesn't notice the sudden silence until then, or the woman standing at his side until he lowers the tankard and looks over. Mia stands there, still in her gown, looking so out of place in this little hovel in Winter Town. Ro has to blink twice to see if that's really there standing there, or some sort of ale mirage turning sailors into princesses. But she's there, her hand warm and soft on his arm, her expression concerned.
"What are-" Ro begins, rising to his feet. But he forgets in that moment that he's sitting at the counter, and bangs his thigh against the lip of the wood. "Mahal, shit." He hisses, slapping a palm onto the counter and sliding the other way out from his chair, "What are you doing here?" He continues, setting his attention back on Mia.

She's well aware of the silence and honestly she wishes that everyone wouldn't stare like that at her because it was a little unnerving but she put most of her attention on Ro once more.
Mia watches as he starts to rise and is asking her a question but then she hears the bang and in the silence of the tavern it is a little loud and then he swears and she has to chew on her lip to stop herself from smiling because at the moment to her it is a little funny, it might now be to him but hearing him swear definitely was different and clearly wasn't put off by her station enough to do it in front of her not that Mia minded if he did.
He then started on that question once more and his full attention is back on her once more and she lets her bottom lip go before answering. "I've come to take you to a bed so that you can sleep off the ale that you clearly have drank a lot of" she said and looked at the tankard before slowing back up at Ro. There was always something new that she was learning about him. He drank, he swore. He definitely was taller but all of that didn't matter right now.
"I'll take you back to the guest quarters so you can sleep it off and I'm not taking no for an answer" she said and pointed at him before slowly looking over at the barkeep "I'm sorry if he caused any trouble and I will pay for any damage that has been caused" she nodded before turning her eyes back to Ro "You ready to head back towards the castle?" she asked and raised an eyebrow at him. Mia was telling the truth, he was going to be staying whether he liked it or not and it would definitely mean that she could keep an eye on him for the night seeing as she would be staying there too just to make sure that he was fine.
More than that she wanted to stay out the way of her mother and this gave her the perfect excuse to do that.

"Not a....not a lot," Ro argues, setting his hands at his hips. Alfie snorts a little, but when Ro glowers towards him the man goes back to minding his business and scrubbing down the counter with a wet cloth. "I'm fine." Ro continues, looking back to Mia. "Absolutely fine, it's all fine." He reaches out to grab his spear-sword, but his hand misses by a good foot, forcing him to try and fail again, until he has to actually look and aim this time. But still, when he spins it, the motion is smooth as water and slides right back into place across his back. "See?" He grins, holding his hands out in a silent ta-da.
"He caused no trouble, your highness," the barkeep speaks, giving Mia a kind smile and shaking his head, "Caused no damage either, other than a hurt ego. And he tipped well."
"You're a good man, Alfie." Ro says, pointing at him. The barkeep just laughs a little and goes back to his work. When Mia asks if he's ready to go, Ro groans a little and swipes a hand over his face, "I can't. I shouldn't." He admits, remembering the cold look Katherine had given him at the godswood. "I've already caused too much trouble, and we can't have that apparently. Mahal forbid I visit an old friend. Or come from Rohan, it seems." He adds on, motioning with a hand towards the trio huddled in the corner. Tommen is still glowering, but stays silent. "Archdemons are ugly bastards, by the way." He calls out towards them.
"He does sound like he needs a bit of sleep," Alfie comments, looking back towards Mia.
"Oh, come on." Ro huffs, dropping his hand down heavily back to his side.
"Sorry, sir." Alfie shrugs apologetically.
"Fine. Where are we going?" Ro sighs out, turning his own gaze back to Mia. "Lead the way." He adds on, giving her a low and dramatic bow.

Mia raised an eyebrow when he started to argue back, this was the Ro that she remembered of course at the age she remembered him no drink was involved so seeing him drunk was definitely an experience. One that she wasn't likely to forget but at the same time she wanted to make sure that he got some sleep before he went on with whatever it was he was going to do. He started to play with his blade and she rolled her eyes as if she wasn't impressed because she had seen blades before and if they didn't cause her to squeal then then neither would his.
The barkeep started to speak to her and she looked over at him and smiled, she was going to make sure that he remembered this in the morning.
Ro then started going on about causing too much trouble and how he wasn't liked because he was from Rohan and she threw a look over her shoulder at the men that had clearly caused some trouble before setting her blue eyes on Ro. "I'm taking you back to the castle so that you can sleep all of it off" she said after a moment and then finally he let her take him with her.
He gave a bow and she rolled her eyes before pulling him out of the tavern with her, the last thing Mia wanted was for him to embarrass himself.
Once out of the tavern she took him up towards the castle and made the guards promise not to tell the Queen any of this before she walked with Ro back through the gates and into the courtyard, there wasn't anyone about so taking him to the guest quarters was easy, she opened the door and slipped in there with him before she finally said "You can stay here for the night to sleep off the drink" she said and helped him in the direction of the bed before she moved away. "Take the armor off, it'll be easier for you to get some sleep without it rather than have it on" she grabbed a chair and moved it towards the bed before she sat down on it.
This was the first time she has ever seen him like this and she hoped it would be the last time for a while. Something had clearly caused him to drink but she wasn't sure she wanted to know what it was right now. Once had had removed his blade and sat down on the bed, she leaned forward and moved a couple strands of his dark hair away from his eyes and she put her hand against his cheek; letting her thumb caress the skin.

She leads him back towards the castle, Ro keeping his own footing for the most part -- though the world sways faintly back and forth around him. His blue eyes remain centered upon the ground, watching it carefully through the haze, feeling the chill of the night against his cheek like the cool touch of fingertips. He scarcely realizes they've reached the guest chambers until Mia is guiding him towards a bed, a pleasant sight to behold. He'd spent so long sleeping rough, so long far away from actual beds, and while traveling city to city has kept him on his feet, these last few weeks have shown him more comfort than he's known in five years.
Mia tells him to get out of his armor, and he sighs a little as he drops down heavily upon the edge of the bed. He tosses aside his sword first, a little carelessly. And then with his right hand, he starts undoing the latches of his steel sleeve, pulling it loose with practiced fingers unhindered by the ale swishing in his stomach. It comes loose as he undoes the final buckle near his throat, and Ro lets the pieces slip free to lie upon the blankets beside him. He wears a red sleeve beneath, which he tugs off as well to add to the pile, exposing his left arm.
On the soft skin of his bicep, just above the crook of his elbow, a scar sits like a brand -- a series of lines connected to one another. It looks runic in nature, but like none that the Durins have ever marked themselves with in the past. To an untrained eye, it looks like nothing. Random markings. But the longer one looks, the more it appears like the wingspan of a dragon.
Roe tears at the clasps of his fingerless leather gloves with his teeth, pulling them off as well before he starts working on his boots. He only then notices the chair that Mia has pulled up and is now sitting in, her eyes trained on him. He pauses, looking at her curiously, until her fingers stroke aside his hair and her palm comes to rest upon his cheek. He hesitates or a moment, fingers still clutching at the lacing of his boots but his eyes upon her as she looks back at him. His brows twitch a little closer.

Mia watches as he takes the armor off and for the first time she could see her friend. It's weird what one saw in someone else but he really did look like he could do with some sleep and the bed in the guest quarters was enough to keep him going for the night. It would keep him warm and definitely out of the way of the guards or anyone else who wanted to get their hands on him.
He pulls his gloves off with his teeth and can't help smile because that seemed to be the most male thing to do, everyone she knew would take their gloves off with their teeth and yet she never knew why because it was probably just as easy to take them off with his other hand than it was with his teeth but she never mentioned that. Ro was working on his books when she had put her hand against his cheek and now she just felt awkward so she dropped her hand before raising slowly to her feet and leaned over before kissing the top of his head. "Get some sleep" she said softly and smiled.
Mia knew she would have to keep out the way of her mother who would no doubt yell at her for what she had said earlier but honestly she didn't care. She knew that Ro was fine for the night so she could get some sleep in her own room but she wanted to sit with him for a moment longer even if she was just there to make sure he had a peaceful night. She looked around the room when silence hit them again and this time she was more aware of his eyes on her and she slowly moved her own blue ones back to look at him. After a moment she rose to her feet and then headed in the direction of the door. No one would disturb him here and even if it was for only one night the last thing she wanted was for him to sleep in the streets or in any other place he could find.
No, he was her friend and had stayed here before so now he could do it again.

The moment passes, somehow so slow and yet so quick when it's over. She kisses his head softly and rises to her feet a breath later, making her way towards the door. Ro falters, not knowing what to say to a moment of affection after such a tumultuous day. The ale clouding his mind does not help either, making his tongue feel heavy with unsurety. If this had happened before Katherine's threats, before his apparent banishment from Winterfell, before he was told of the heartbreak Mia had endured because of his leaving, the words might have come easier. But if that had not happened, he would not be in this position at all.
Which would have been for the best, entirely.
"I am sorry, Mia." He says, finally, before she can disappear into the night. "For leaving, for...all of it." Ro sighs out a slow breath, resting his elbows upon his knees and watching her. "Especially for drinking, I think I will regret that in the morning." He admits, huffing out half a laugh before he leans his head down to shove his fingers back through his hair. He lets his hand fall once more after a beat, and shakes his head slightly.
"Just know that."
He moves to pick up his armor and set it upon the chair she'd left behind, getting it out of the way.

Ro speaks and she stops in her tracks on the way to the door, her back is to him and for a moment she wondered if this is why he had got drunk. She let her mind think over the time she had left him in the Godswood with her mother and thought that maybe Katherine had spoken to him about what had happened after he had left.
Mia had been to Durinhall a few times over the time he had been away and it had felt like a stab in her heart everytime she stepped foot in Rohan and with that feeling she never ventured to Ash because she couldn't take the thought of going to Bilbo's house and not finding Ro there waiting for her, of the hugs they gave each other when they saw one another again. That had seemed like another lifetime and maybe to her it was because she was different now.
She had told her mother that she didn't want to marry the Lord's that had been chosen for her and she doubted it was because of Ro, even though the timing wasn't perfect, she just didn't want to be tied to a man that she wouldn't ever love.
Mia closed her eyes when she heard him apologise and it felt like a stab all over again hearing how sad he sounded. She never wanted to hear this from him, never wanted to see a drunk Ro but here he was apologising for all that had happened after he had left. Her breathing felt hard to do but she opened her eyes anyway. Then he said the final bit and she glanced over her shoulder to see him moving his armor.
She watched as he put it on his chair and she chewed her lip and now had two options, one was to leave and let him get the sleep he clearly needed right now or the second one was... Mia started to play with her fingers she usually done that while she was nervous and tried to move her feet in the direction of the door but instead found herself turning around and moving back to where he was. She watched as he looked up at her and then her lips were against his. In the beginning the kiss had been a bit hard but she softened it so he could feel the kiss that she wanted to give him in the wood earlier.
This probably was the worst time to give him the kiss but she didn't care, slowly Amelia pulled back from his lips and leaned her forehead against his and settled her hands on his shoulders, her lips were still close to his before she whispered to him "Please," she said and closed her eyes up "stop apologising, you're here now and that is all that matters"
Maybe she had been right, maybe the starlight had brought him back to her.
