The one thing that Emily liked was to have a lazy morning in bed, especially on a day off, but unfortunately last night she had brought files home and she was going through them now while sat up in bed. She had her hair up in a messy bun at the back of her head and her glasses were on as she bit on her lip and looked over the first file that she had to go through. To the side of her she heard a male voice ask if she wanted a coffee and it took her a moment to answer him as Emily lifted her brown eyes up and over to the bedroom door. "Yes please" she said with a nod before she dropped her eyes back down to the file that was on her lap. Emily couldn't see why Fury would give her these files because they made no sense at all and none of this actually helped with her team. She was about to turn over the page when one of Caesar's dogs got up on to the bed and took his place next to her and that made Emily move her hand from the page and over Bowie and scratched behind his ear. "How's it going there?" Caesar asked as he came back in the bedroom and nudged his head towards the files and handed the cup over to her. "Frustrating" Emily admitted and smiled her thanks as she took the cup from him and then was about to take a sip when her phone went off and a groan came from her lips, she put the cup down on bedside cupboard next to her and picked up her cell phone. "I got to go in" she threw the covers back after giving Bowie another scratch behind his ear and then moved her legs off the bed and put her feet on the floor; taking her glasses off as she did. SHIELD doesn't believe in day's off. With that in mind she got quickly dressed and brushed her hair and teeth. "A mission?" Caesar watched her. "Could be" she slipped her feet in to her biker boots and then looked around for her car keys. Emily put her stuff in to her handbag, including the files that she had to look over, before she picked up her coffee and drank only a little bit of it. She tipped the rest of it away in to the sink and then Caesar got ready. "I'll see you at HQ" she gave him a soft kiss on his cheek before she left the apartment. -.- Emily got to HQ and then went straight to Fury's office because she got her missions from him and she looked down at another file, another piece of SHIELD shit that was coming her way. "And they don't know what it is?" she asked and kept her eyes down on the file of the only information they had on this thing. "Another 084?" "An 084" Fury confirmed "And it's in Puerto Rico" Puerto Rico was still cleaning up after Hurricane Maria and it would no doubt be a mess there "You give me all the best missions, Director" Emily said in a teasing voice before bringing her eyes up to him with a smile. "I'm nice like that" Emily wanted to snort but she was sure that he would just give her a disappointing look with his one eye. It was true though, he did give the team a good load of missions that they could pick from. In fact she loved her little team and more than that she knew they had each others backs. "And someone found this in one of the caves?" she put her eyes back down to the file and nodded. "Well I'll get my team on it right away" she closed the file up and then walked out the office. She had been given this team a couple years before and it was her own little family within SHIELD. Going undercover with Steve had been hard work especially when he had spent most of his time at Stark Tower. Then there was bringing Teresa in because of her abilities which she hated because of Caesar. Puerto Rico was over three and a half hours away so they would be taking the quinjet this time. She loved her plane but sometimes just taking the jet was better... though saying that they might need a car... Emily pressed the button for the elevator and waited for it to ping and the doors open up before she walked in and said "Hangar" out loud. " Confirmed" a computer voice came back to her and she leaned against the glass back as she descended towards the hangar. It's when she stepped out of the elevator and down in to the plane, up to the lounge, that she looked up at her team. "We got a mission guys" Even though Emily was going to have the day off that didn't mean those on her team would have but they would've been stationed at the Triskellion or up in the air while FitzSimmons would've ended back up at the labs for the day. "I thought we were going to be in the labs all day" Jemma was relieved that they would be out on a mission, as much as she liked being down in the Science part of the building she would rather be out on the road or in the air. "Maybe tomorrow" Emily teased softly. "Oh, Fitz, we're going to be needing the glasses with the lights on because we're going to be going in to the dark so make sure that you have those packed and your DWARFs" "Where we heading to this time?" Alex asked and was leaning back against the touch screen computer. "Puerto Rico"

The apartment becomes strangely still the moment Emily leaves in a flurry of packed files and blonde hair, a sudden quiet filling each space at the closing of the front door. It's unusual, as of late, for a moment of calm. Ever since Emily began commanding her own team, it has been nothing but constant back and forth, phone calls in the dead of night, packing for month-long missions, and the frustrated grumblings that accompany each one of those tasks. Even on their off days, however few they may be, Emily always has a pile of paperwork she's postponing just long enough for the pair of them to fall asleep while watching the same movie they've been trying to watch for months. And even then, she's on near constant contact with Fury.
Not that Caesar can really talk.
He spits toothpaste into the sink basin, and washes it down under a stream of cold water, already running behind. He always is nowadays. One glance in the bathroom mirror and he knows he's going to get shit from Poe about the bags underneath his eyes, but he doesn't have time to dwell on that or how exhausted his very bones feel despite a full night's sleep. It's part of the job, apparently -- to be sleep deprived and addicted to Red Bull. He'd be less annoyed by that fact if he was still 20 years old and an adrenaline junkie. But he must be getting old, because a quiet morning with his dogs and his girl had sounded like the perfect vacation from SHIELD's expectations.
So much for that.
He grabs his things on the way to the door, giving one last head scratch to each of his pups all while swearing under his breath about how late he is. With one arm stuck in the sleeve of his leather jacket and the other reaching out to yank the door closed behind him, he hops down the steps to the DC sidewalk, and fumbles for his car keys.
It's early enough that traffic gives way with a minimal amount of frustration, but late enough that getting a drive-thru coffee is sure to get him a disapproving side-eye from Emily when he shows up last to the hangar. Caesar chances it anyway, apologizing to thin air in advance in some sort of hopes that Emily hears him from miles away. He chugs half of it before he's even left the Starbucks parking lot and by the time he's stepping on the tarmac, the to-go cup is rattling empty. He spies the rest of the team loading onto a quinjet, and throws the cup in a trash can as he passes.
He reaches the group just in time to hear their destination, and his brows bounce upwards in momentary surprise. "Que? Isla del Encanto?" He says, spanish rolling off his tongue fluently.

Emily made sure that the team had been packed, or at least making sure that they had everything they needed because with the quinjet they couldn't take everything that FitzSimmons was used to. She had pushed her hair up into a ponytail like she usually did on missions after she went in to the field with her hair down and one of the monsters that they had been hunting had decided to pull her by the hair and, it had really hurt. She wore a thigh holster and wasn't blind to the fact that Caesar hadn't made it to the meeting that morning.
She looked over her shoulder when she heard him speak Spanish and a smile pulled at her lips. It always made him so much more hotter when he spoke in his native tongue, in fact he had actually taught her a little bit to go with the other languages that she was fluent in herself. "Si" she said with a nod "Pero yo prefiero Italia" and after that she grinned at him; of course she had been learning it in between going on missions and trying to do the bloody paperwork that came with having her own team. "Fitz" she called out and turned away from Caesar to look at the Scottish man who had been putting his DWARF's away in one of the compartments. "Make sure that we have the camera because if it's as big as it says in the file then we might need to get another team down there to bring it home" there was no way that they were going to be bringing it home on their quinjet.
"Camera..camera" he then clicked his fingers and walked back down the loading bay of the jet and in the direction of the giant ass plane that was over to the right of their quinjet.
Before long the Scottish man was back with his camera.

Caesar tsks, shaking his head at Emily and her Italian propaganda. He's well aware of Italy's dazzling history and sprawling hills and quote, unquote delicious food, but nothing compares to eating alcapurrias on a warm day and sitting beach side. He's biased, he knows, but that's only because his mother raised him right. "At least your Spanish is getting better," Caesar teases.
He looks beyond Emily to watch Fitz scramble to fit as much equipment as he can onto the quinjet, all of them far too used to the excess space granted to them on their private plane the size of a city block. Caesar is a little relieved for the sudden change. Not only for the simplicity of flying a smaller aircraft with more maneuverability and speed, but for the unsaid yet obvious fact that this is meant to be a quick mission. The likelihood of still getting his lazy homebody day is slim to none, but the sooner they get to Puerto Rico for whatever purpose Fury has deemed worthy, the sooner they'll be done with it. He's long started to miss and appreciate the quick, one-stop errands these days.
But his brows furrow slightly when he catches on to what Emily is saying.
"Exactly...how big are we talking?" He asks, looking back to her. He's well aware he's opening himself to getting chastised for missing something important while he was filling his gut with much-needed caffeine, but he'd like to know what the elephant in the room is before stumbling haphazardly onto it.

This time Emily tsks him because he really should've been there when they had had the meeting, although a part of her isn't actually surprised because she had dashed around the bedroom getting all of her stuff ready before she even left the apartment. Her brown eyes dropped down to the file in her hand and opened it up before she read aloud "Whatever it is that was found was in a cave and it stands much taller than I do and I'm 6"3' and that's coming from one of the guys that found it" she looked up at him "So I'm guessing it's tall and also made of rock and Fury wants it looked at and our honest opinion"
Emily would love to have a holiday that didn't include rocks and 084's and all the other crap that they've taken on but at the same time she's not sure she would know what to do when it came to sitting still. "So it's over to you pilot" she smiled at him before she caught a glimpse of Fitz taking a seat and then moved away from Caesar so that he could go to the front and she found her own seat. After this mission she was going to book a week off so that she could just stay in bed all day eating crap and watching movies that she's still trying to catch up on that has been out for a while.
She looked up when Alex came to sit next to her and smiled softly.
Alex had joined the team a little while after the others but she seemed to just fit right in with FitzSimmons, Caesar and Poe. Hunter had tried to hit on her, to which she bluntly told him to fuck off. That stopped him but she definitely did have a laugh with him whenever they came across each other. Sometimes he would need their help and sometimes Emily would need his help and he was the right person to ask around for information that they would need. "What do you honestly think it is?" she nudged her head in direction of the file.
"I honestly don't know but I do know one thing.. I need a holiday" Emily admitted.

"Huh..." Caesar replies in quiet interest, setting his hands on his hips. That description, albeit a little informal and vague, sounds familiar. Strange rock formations aren't necessarily a brand new thing. Stonehenge still attracts thousands of visitors a year and they're always finding weird shit in the jungles of South America that they can't quite explain thanks to hundreds of years of colonization and erasure of history. But a strange tickle at the back of his mind makes his previous excitement at a cut and dry mission a little dimmer.
Shrugging off his ill feelings, he shakes his head and clears his throat, "Well alright then. Puerto Rico it is."
As pilot, he doesn't need much other than his own head and a plane to fly, but he makes a quick stop at the plane for his stowed away go-bag just in case this mission goes a little longer and gets a little more complicated than expected. By the time he returns, everyone is already strapping themselves into their seats and readying for the flight. Even Poe who seems to have snuck in during those five minutes and is already seated and bouncing his head along to music pumping through his airpods. Caesar snorts and pounds a fist against the doorlock. Clapping a palm on Poe's shoulder -- startling the younger man who lets out a very loud "AH" in response -- he navigates his way between seats and knees to the cockpit at the front.
"Ready to rock and roll?" He calls back as he drops into his chair.
"Ready to whoop your ass." Poe yells back.
"Maybe later, big boy," Caesar replies as his hands move across the controls. In a matter of minutes, the quinjet lifts into the air towards the opening hangar doors, water dripping onto the jet's windshield as they rise into the morning sky.

There's talking throughout the flight but only some of it registers with Emily because she's too busy going over the stuff that she had tried to do this morning but had been called in and she knows not to mix work when on another mission but Emily just wants to get these done and back to Fury so that she can say that she's completed them. In all honesty she was tired of looking at any files that had the SHIELD eagle on the front and would rather be sitting by a pool somewhere in a bikini with a drink in her hand and Caesar speaking Spanish to her. With that thought she looks over at the back of his seat and smiles to herself.
Her brown eyes falls back to the file.
Over three and a half hours later they are in Puerto Rico and it's nice to see some sun rather than the cold back in DC. Though that cold could always make her cuddle up to Caesar.
They grab their gear and head down towards the caves that this huge rock had been found in and they come across one of the guards that was keeping everyone away. His English wasn't too bad but she would rather speak to him in English rather than Spanish because as Caesar had pointed out, her Spanish was getting better.
"Who are you?" he asks and looks at Emily.
With that she reaches in to her back pocket of her jeans and pulls out her SHIELD badge and says "Emily Thorne, SHIELD, you are expecting us"
The man nodded and then in an afterthought asks the same question that she gets every time "What does SHIELD stand for?"
Emily wanted to roll her eyes but said "Strategic Homeland I-s that the way we're supposed to go, thank you" and with that she walked on with her team. They come to the mouth of the cave and she turned to Fitz "We're going to need that stuff now Fitz" and was a pair of glasses, and once on her head the lights turned on. Fitz handed everyone a pair and they walked in to the cave to find this rock that was apparently so important that Fury got her out of bed for it.

It's the sunshine he misses, Caesar realizes. By the time they reach Puerto Rico, miles outside of any city limit, it's well into the afternoon. And while the jungle isn't as colorful and green as it would be in the middle of summer, the breeze is still warmer than even the nicest of DC's winter days. He stands at the open bay door of the quinjet as the others unload their gear to inspect their big, strange rock, taking in the smell of salty sea breeze and damp earth. It's been a while since a mission sent him south of Florida, and but each and every single one lately has made him feel more and more homesick. He misses his mother's family in Guatemala. Misses visiting their small little town on the outskirts of rain forest and mountain. Misses seeing something familiar.
Everything lately has been....for lack of a better word...alien.
"Just gonna stand there and look pretty all day, hotshot?" Poe says as he's stepping out of the jet, slinging the strap of his rifle over his shoulder.
"That's the plan." Caesar smiles cockily back.
"Well too bad, cause you look like hot shit. You been sleeping at all?" Poe says, right on cue, taking a step towards him just to squint right in Caesar's face like he's found something utterly disgusting.
Caesar shoves his friend's face back with the palm of his hand. "I'm sleeping fine, buddy."
"Uh huh, and I'm taking Gal Gadot to dinner this weekend." Poe snorts, smacking Caesar's hand away. "What the hell does Fury have you up to anyway, this is the first mission you've been on in weeks."
"Stuff." Caesar shrugs, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning back against the frame of the doorway.
"Oh yeah?" Poe bounces his brows up and nods with intrigue. "Yeah. Things."
"Sounds real secret..."
"Oh you know."
"...And real cool."
"Just go do your job, jarhead, sweet Jesus." Caesar huffs, kicking out with a foot to get the kid moving. Poe snorts and hops down to the soft layer of grass covering the rockface leading to the cave.
"Alright, alright. Keep your secrets." Poe calls over his shoulder, making his way towards the others heading into the cave. "I want my jacket back by the way!" He yells.

They walk through the cave and when they finally come to the opening that's where they find the rock that has everyone excited, mostly FitzSimmons, but to her it was just a rock and one that Fury had got her out of bed for. She wasn't going to let that go at all. "Fitz, deploy the DWARFs" Emily looked over at the Scottish man before putting her eyes back on to the rock. In to her comms she lets Caesar know that they've found it and will be back as soon as they can. She hears him answer the other end and then looks around to the rest of the opening to see if there was anything else.
The sound of the whirring blades of Fitz's toys sounded much louder in here but she guessed that that was due to the fact things echoed in a cave. The lights ran up and down as the drones scanned the rock while Simmons took pictures to send back to the Triskellion and they knew they would have to wait til the other team got their asses down to Puerto Rico.
There was chatter from the team and as time passed she looked down at her watch to find out that they had been here for a little while but they had to take as much data as they could to send back to Fury. Fitz had concluded that it was a monolith, and that there were markings on it that he swore he had seen before but couldn't remember where it was that he had actually seen them to.
After what felt like forever the team started packing up and said that they would need to get the other team down here to bring this thing back to HQ and then maybe they could analyse it a bit more better and find out where all the markings on it were from. Emily told them to pack their stuff up and then go back to the quinjet as she wanted to be the last one out as being leader. She told Caesar that the team was on their way back and he answered. She watched as they walked down the way and then their voices were swallowed by the darkness and she pulled her lip in between her teeth, moving her head around so that the light shone on everything and it was then that she started to make her way back towards the way that the others had disappeared.
"I'm on my way back" Emily said in to her comms but there was just static, so she tried again but they didn't seem to be picking her up. It was strange because of the fact that she had just spoken to Caesar up on the quinjet.
She pulled out her cell and she started to text the guys up top when she heard this sound that was like -well rocks breaking apart- and the next thing she knows there's a sound of water, or at least that's what it sounded like, rushing towards her and she tried to run but the black stuff had hold of her legs to the point that she fell to the cage floor "Caes-" she was then swallowed up by the rock.
Emily then hit the ground and she coughed out because she now hurt, her hair that had been pulled back was now a mess and her hands were bloody along with her knees from where she had been dragged along the ground. Her glasses that Fitz had given her was no longer on her face and she didn't know where the hell she was but when she put her hand to her thigh she found that the gun was still there.
"Stay very still" came a voice behind her and but she moved up on to her knees.
"I'm staying still" other than the fact she got up on to her knees that was.
"Drop the weapon" the voice demanded and she looked down at her gun, it was her favourite one but she reached down and grabbed it out of her thigh holster and held it up so that the person saw her eject the magazine and then threw the gun down on to the ground. It made a sound that made her wince because she now had a headache. Someone walked over and put some cuffs on her hands. They were tight and her hands were already painful from the cave floor but she didn't let it show but one thing was playing on her mind. "Where are we?"
"Like you don't know" the voice came back and then she was pulled up before she then started to walk away from the spot, Emily looked around. She didn't know where she was.

The forest branches bend and snap out of the way as they march the intruder into the open. The hidden base barely takes notice, all too wrapped up in their own duties to pay any mind to yet another spy being discovered lurking where they don't belong. Yet a few, curious just enough, glance at the strangely dressed woman shouting like a madman. But the guards keep pulling her along, passed ships and crates, into the open rockface just beyond.
Vines swing low into the constructed hangar, the smell of damp earth hanging heavily in the air and the sound of grinding metal echoing from somewhere deep within the cavern. The sun barely touches within, giving some reprieve from the humidity but not much. As they guide her along, alien languages come from alien mouths, some human-like, others drastically not. But her appearing the strangest of them all to their eyes.
They descend a set of stone steps as they move further into the ground, their grip on her arms tight and unrelenting. "General," the first guard shouts out as they reach the lower level. Glowing panels appear around them, their lights blinking with new information from planets away that seems never-ending. And never any good, "Our sensors were right. We found her lurking just on the outskirts."
He pushes the woman forward with a rough hand, but keeps his grip tight on her. There are very few places for her to run at this point, but its better to be safe than sorry.
An older woman glances back towards them over a shoulder. Her graying hair twists into a neat bun at the top of her head, decorated with a small gold pin holding it all together. To an untrained eye, she looks kind. Her eyes crinkle around the edges and her frame appears more matronly than military. But her stance is strong, her gaze unwavering, her reputation larger than the brightest sun. And she looks over this blonde intruder in one investigative sweep. Her eyes narrow and her lips purse into a flat line.
She sweeps a hand over the touch-controls beneath her fingertips, and turns to face the trio completely as the hologram powers off. "Who are you?" She asks, voice stern.

Emily feels like she's banged her head and woke up in one of the movies that her and Caesar has been trying to watch. Maybe that was it, she had banged her head so badly that she was now living in a dream because none of this was right at all. She felt like she was being punked by Poe because this would be sort of punishment for dating Caesar because the two of them didn't get on, Poe and Emily that is.
The guard wasn't letting her go but she wasn't sure what she was meant to be looking at and she felt her heart rate creep up when she heard voices that didn't sounded human. Now Emily knows that she's not in Kansas anymore or Puerto Rico for that matter. Her thoughts turned back to her team, the man flying their jet and how this morning she had rushed out of his bed to make a meeting that she should've just left. They could've cuddled up in bed and not leave it.
They moved down some steps and the guard shouted for someone called General and now it made her worry that she had come across a military operation and she knew that SHIELD and the military didn't get on; something about being up each others asses and less said about that the better when it came to Emily's opinion. She was pushed forward but the grip didn't leave her arm and she could feel the warm blood run down her fingers from where her palms were cut but she wouldn't give this man the satisfaction of seeing her wince.
Emily looked over her shoulder at him and she thought about kicking him hard and then taking his weapon but something told her that she would die if she done that and she didn't want to die in a strange place.
She slowly brought her eyes forward to face the woman who she was now standing in front of, the man had told her that she was lurking on the outskirts. "I wasn't lurking, in fact I don't even know where the hell I am" then came the stern voice and Emily knew that she would be an idiot to talk back to this woman because while she might appear kind there was this vibe that told Emily not to mess with this woman. She asked who she was an now Emily could lie and make up a name, give her the name she was born with or the name that everyone knew her under. "My name is Emily and I think this has been a really bad and I mean bad understanding"

"Lurking," the guard reiterates, glaring towards the woman.
"Enough, Jarek," the older woman orders without having to raise her voice. The guard quiets, folding his mouth shut and straightening his posture like a scolded soldier. She sighs quietly, turning her gaze back upon the blonde standing there in shock and confusion. There have been many spies discovered in their ranks, planted like roaches. But this girl would have to be a talented liar to be this utterly disoriented. "Emily." She repeats, nodding just slightly. "Torra, get Poe," She says, gaze never leaving the girl.
"Yes, General," the other guard nods, releasing Emily's left arm to turn quickly and climb the stairs once more.
"Where are you from, Emily?" The woman asks, shifting to lean her hip against the table she stands beside. "Naboo? Mandalore? Tatooine?"

Emily had turned her head back towards the guard when he repeated that she had been lurking. She could feel the pounding in her head and more than anything she wanted to either sleep or wake up from this horrible nightmare that she has landed in. She tried to move her hand to pinch herself but with her arms cuffed at the back and she couldn't move her hands even if she wanted too. The last time she had been cuffed up like this was when she had been arrested back in the Hamptons over shit that Victoria had pulled.
A slight smirk pulled at her lips which dropped when she looked back at the General. The woman said her name as if she was testing it out on her own lips because the name sounded something exotic. Something strange to the mouths of these people, well if you could call them people especially with who she had walked passed upstairs. Then something that the General said caught her attention, even though the whole woman caught her attention because she didn't have to shout to get the respect that she clearly had. No there was just something about her that screamed she had respect from everyone in here.
Poe, I fucking knew he had something to do this with and once I get my hands on him I'm going to kick him so hard that he will fall out of the quinjet.
The General asked where she was from and started making up these silly names that she has never even heard of and her mouth fell open for a moment before she cleared her throat and said "Indiana" well that was her birth place but now she lived in DC and had this cute apartment that she never even lived in half the time because she was always in Caesar's bed or at HQ.

"In...diana?" The General repeats, slowly, the word foreign in odd. It sounds made up, the kind of gibberish that children speak when their imagination gets a little too creative, and new doubt begins to creep in towards this stranger. She may not be a spy, or the very least not a good spy, but perhaps she is a liar after all. Or just a fool. "And in what system would that be?" She asks, narrowing her gaze at the blonde girl.
"General," A voice calls out from the stairwell, interrupting the mild interrogation. She slowly pulls her gaze away from the girl to look beyond her as the figure quickly descends to their level. The man appears out of shadow, a more familiar face now than he had been just months ago. He's been a welcome addition. Odd, perhaps, like this pretty thing standing before her, but intelligent, cunning, and one hell of a pilot. His curly brown locks and handsome face are just another added bonus. Even to an old woman such as herself. "You called for me." He says, slightly out of breath, as he comes around Jarek's side to stand before her.
"Poe, we have a guest," she speaks, nudging her chin towards the stranger.
The man furrows his dark brows and turns his head to look at Jarek's capture.
And freezes. His eyes go wide as saucers, shock making his entire posture go rigid and tight as wire. "Emily." He blurts out in a rush.
"Jarek, you can leave us." The General states, her suspicions confirmed.
"But, Gen--"
"Now."
The guard grits his teeth, but releases his hold on the blonde to turn toe and head for the stairs. Poe simply continues to stare at the woman.

Emily pushed her eyebrows together because this woman was asking her what system Indiana was in and all of this was just too weird and she was about to say that it was in the same system that they were all in but a voice stopped her and she looked over at the sound that was so familiar to her that it was as familiar as her heartbeat, it was as familiar as the gun that she had carried at her thigh but was now out in the trees of this place wherever it was that they were.
Her heart was beating hard and her throat was tight that she followed the man with her eyes and watched as he had stood in front of the General, this woman who had asked her who she was and what system she had been from and right now she was sure that she was in some sort of coma from banging her head because none of this was right especially when she had called him Poe. He was never called Poe, the man who was called Poe was no doubt complaining about the fact they had to wait for her to come out of the cave.
It was the man who called her names and would throw daggers at her behind her back, who tried so hard to get Caesar to dump her so many times that she had lost count of how many times it had been.
She watched his eyes go wide and she saw his posture go as tight and then he said her name. He spoke her name.
The man who had the same face as her love back in DC.
The guard let her go but she could no longer feel the cuffs around her wrists because they had gone numb.
