Katherine grinned at him when he said that he too was looking forward to dancing. She was sure that the last time she danced was at maybe Sansa’s wedding and that was definitely a long time ago. For the last six centuries she had stayed away from parties because they definitely had too much fun but now they were here and with the jazz music she wanted to dance with him.
He held the door open and she walked in after and looked around the hall this was the scene that was in front of them that showed what happened when no liquor was allowed, everyone drank tea or coffee and she knew that wasn’t the way to spend the night but they did have to abide by the rules up here but definitely not down below.
After a moment she put her purse on a table and pulled him towards the dance floor “Now is the time to live Adrian” she said through a grin and she started to move to the music. She didn’t care if anyone looked at her, she didn’t care if people thought her weird because they didn’t matter, the only person who did was Adrian and she knew in his eyes she wasn’t strange. She was the woman that he had been living with for the last thirty years and right now they were living in this moment.
This was the best time to be alive and if it hadn’t been for him she probably would’ve missed out on this, on the 20s. Missed out on dancing and gambling and just having fun and for that... for all of this she knew that a piece of her heart was his. She loved Jon of course she did but she also loved Adrian and here, now, she knew that.
She knew that she loved him, the frustrating man that sometimes used to cause her to yell at him for his life choices, the man she sat with when he was detoxing. The man that she had left London with so they could make themselves better. The man who has shown her twenty years of laughter and smiles and the world.
She loved Adrian.

Adrian is barely shuffling himself out of his jacket, tossing it over the back of a chair at an empty table, when Katherine grabs him by the hand and pulls him quickly towards the dance-floor. A grin is spread across her face, excited and already moving to the beat of the drums and horns, and Adrian can't help the laugh that falls freely from him. "Alright, alright." He replies, nodding a little, relenting. Still holding onto her hand, he shifts his grip a little in order to pull her back towards him, catching her at the waist, holding her close.
A few other couples are already dancing around them, shimmying to the fast, loose pace, and for a moment, Adrian playfully does the same -- spinning Katherine around, following the beat but not the steps of the others around them, until he twirls Katherine out wide and pulls her back in. And then he slows, holding her once more at the waist, one hand still clasping hers and held aloft to the side, and sways. The music continues fast around their ears, but they move slow, a smile remaining upon Adrian's lips as he looks down her.
"Kat..." he begins, but he hesitates, the words catching in his throat. He wants to say what he's thinking, what he's been thinking for days now, but it's far more difficult for a man who's never said it before in his life. Not to anyone. So he swallows, and looks away once more, forcing the smile to remain, "How the hell do people dance nowadays?"

Katherine moved her hips to the music and is just enjoying her time here in New Orleans. She was absolutely glad that they had come here, It was only at last minute that they had chosen to come here because they had been set for somewhere else but now she couldn’t think of being anywhere but here.
She doesn’t know the moves and honestly doesn’t care because Adrian had promised her dancing and dancing is what they were doing. Then suddenly they turned slow, he still had hold of her hand and his other was on her waist and right now it was just the two of them moving in slow motion to the song going on around them. The other dancers were moving fast but they were slow and she didn’t care.
Adrian was holding her close to him and then he spoke her name and for a moment she wondered what he was thinking, what was going through that mind of his. Did he love her just like she loved him? Would he want to stay with her like this forever. Just the two of them dancing slow while the world sped around them?
Katherine wasn’t sure what he was going to say because in the end he asked about dancing and she huffed out a laugh. “I honestly don’t know” she admitted and looked over at the others before bringing her eyes back up to look at him. “But I like doing this” she said with a smile. She liked being in his arms, him holding her close to him as the world fell around them. Right now it was Adrian and Katherine. Katherine and Adrian.
No one was going to tell them how to dance. No one was going to tell them how to be. No one was going to tell her how to love.
I love you, Adrian

He knows he could easily fake it, the dancing of this era. He also knows he's never really cared too much about living exactly like everyone else. Dancing like everyone else. It's how he's consistently gotten into trouble over the years. But right here, with Katherine, even as the music and the bar and the other dancers whirl around them quickly, all he wants to do is stand and sway real slow, holding her close, knowing that this is how far he's come from fighting in taverns and drinking alone in darkened rooms as the sun waned outside.
Those other places seem like worlds away, other lifetimes, the memories of someone else.
She smiles at him, telling him she likes this too, and that flurry in his chest returns like butterfly wings beating against his ribs. He pulls in a breath and looks down at her, wanting to live in his moment forever, as stupid as that might sound. And as far as he's concerned, he can.
He wets his lips and parts his lips once more, wanting to try again, so desperately, as she looks up at him with her dark eyes and her wistful face. But the more he thinks, the more he worries, the harder it is to find the perfect moment, the quicker the music seems to pound --
"I love you."
The words fall from his lips, quiet but purposeful, shared only in the space between them as he looks down at her, still moving slowly back and forth upon the dance floor.

The two of them are dancing slowly as if they are in their own world, it's just them and the music and no one else. No one outside of the little circle they have around themselves. The music continues to play and people continue to move around them as if they are in their way but Katherine doesn't care, doesn't care that people would think them strange.
They had come to dance and this is what they were doing even if it was slowly. They had all the time in the world to figure out the dance moves but for now he is looking down at her and she smiles back up at him. She doesn't know where things changed, she doesn't know just how quickly after New York things had changed but the two of them are here, now just living in this moment.
Then.... he says those three words.
For a moment she did wonder if he felt the same, if he could even love the woman that had turned him, the woman that had took him down the dark path but she guessed to him it didn't matter. It didn't matter all of those things now and haven't mattered in a very long time. She knows that she hasn't said anything yet and he was probably freaking out in his head wondering if he ruined the moment but he hadn't. He definitely hadn't.
"I az te obicham" she smiled when she saw the confused look on his face. "I love you too"

There's a beat, a pause, where Katherine just stands there looking up at him. And for that moment, Adrian wonders if he should not have said that. He knows her feelings for Jon, how long the two of them have been together, and he knows that -- until now -- they're relationship has been rocky and odd. But for the last thirty years since London, he's realized time and time again that he's never felt this way about anyone before. He's realized how much happier he is, how much more in control he's become. He'd set out with her all those years ago to better himself and Katherine has been the spark that truly allowed him to do so.
He loves her, even if she does not feel the same.
And then she speaks, the words coming in a language he doesn't understand, making his brows press close. But when she translates, a flood of relief rushes through his veins, warming his chest and sending that flurry anew.
He releases her hand to set his palm upon her cheek and draw her face to him, kissing her there upon the dance floor in front of the jazz band, not caring who sees. The kiss is deep and warm and loving as they stand there, their swaying coming to a gradual halt.

Katherine had seen the worry in his features when she hadn't said anything back. She did love Jon and there was no way around it, she would always love him but she had enough room in her heart for Adrian too. For her to love him and it didn't matter what anyone else thought, it didn't matter that it might seem selfish of her but right here and now she loved Adrian. The man had lifted her up and made her feel so much more alive than she's felt in a while.
He released her hand and put his palm on he cheek before their lips were connected. She had spent a while wondering just what was happening between them. In the beginning it had been to just ease the pain of what had happened, then it was to make sure that she didn't have nightmares and then after that they just stopped explaining, they stopped trying to find words on what they were and just lived in the moment and she liked that.
The two vampires had been polar opposites and yet right now they were completely the same. They were in love with each other and she knew that if she had stayed in her somber mood then this wouldn't have happened, they wouldn't have fallen in love and they wouldn't be here together enjoying the jazz music or New Orleans. The dancing came to a halt and she was okay with that because in the end she pulled out of the kiss and looked up at him and then put her forehead against his.
"Thank you" she whispered softly to him. "thank you for bringing me back and making me happy, thank you for showing me how to laugh and thank you..." she pulled away to look at him once more "for loving me"

The kiss for a long moment, the jazz music swelling around them. But when the moment ends, Katherine is the first to draw away, her forehead resting against his. Adrian's hand gently trails away from her face, falling to rest upon the other side of her waist, holding her as they stand in the middle of the dance floor. Her whispers tickle against his lips, thanking him for things she did not need to thank him for. Thanking him for things he's not entirely sure is all his doing. But a smile ticks at his lips, happy to know she's willing to give him this much credit. The last, at least, is the most true.
He loves her. So damn much.
He draws away as well as she moves to look at him, her eyes big and bright in the dim lights of the jazz bar. His hand returns to her face once more, stroking his thumb along her cheek as the smile spreads a little further.
"I would not have been able to do any of that if you hadn't saved me first," he admits, softly, eyes skimming over her face.

He stroked her cheek and then spoke about how she had saved him first and a smile pulled at her lips.
Back all those times when she had sat with him while she got him off of the human blood, all those times she would yell at him and tell him to get his act together, she never thought it would lead to this. She never thought that in the end the both of them would save each other after London. When they left she had spent a couple years getting him back on track but after that she had nothing to preoccupy her mind and that was probably why she slipped into a somber mood, why everything seemed dark for a while.
It must've been hell travelling with her but he carried on, he stayed by her side and even though it was over ten years when she finally came out of her shell he had stayed with her, he had made sure that she wasn't on her own so maybe she did teach him something all those centuries. Maybe he had finally learned that in the end they needed to stay together.
So for ten years he put up with her somber moods and her quietness and in the end it prevailed because she came out of the shell she had put herself in and now the two of them loved each other. They both saved each other time and time again and she had a feeling that that won't change. She never told him of the promise she had made to his brother, never once in the years that he would make her mad. Katherine wouldn't ever use it against him, wouldn't use it to hurt him but she had been the presence in his life even if in the beginning he had been very angry with her.
Now everything was different.
She smiled at him before chewing on her lip.
"I did need to kick you in the butt sometimes but I'm glad that I did" and she really was because if not then this moment wouldn't be here.
A grin then pulled at her lip once more. "Let's finish dancing" she said and then started to move her hips again to the music, it finally hitting them once more.
